Walk into your house to go inside. Sleep in the bed, and press C to build furniture on the square you're facing.
The general store sells better tools. The dearer it is, the better it is.
Chop in the forest, mine in the quarry, net fish off the beach, sell it all in town, and take jobs off the quest board.
Hoe the grass, plant a seed, water it, then go to bed. It grows overnight.
It saves by itself.
